The best cool mist humidifier was the Honeywell HCM-300T. It performed very effectively, didn’t need to be refilled too often, and used a UV light to disinfect the water. The Honeywell HCM-631 came in second place, and is recommended for budget conscious consumers. They recommend this type of humidifier as the safety conscious choice for those who have young children.
The Enviracare Germ-Free EWM-211D won first prize in the warm mist humidifier category, also featuring a UV light to kill contaminants. The Holmes HM5305-UC came in a close second.
Ultrasonic humidifiers were tested separately, and the winner was the Air-O-Swiss AOS 7144.
